Buddha’s Birthday From 4:00 to 6:00 PM

White Heron Sangha and San Luis Obispo Zen Circle

Buddhas Birthday

Buddha’s birthday has been celebrated for centuries throughout South, Southeast, and East Asia, and today is celebrated in many western Buddhist centers across a number of traditions. It celebrates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama, who upon his enlightenment became known as the Buddha.

Traditionally, this is a very joyous celebration, bringing together the larger Buddhist community, including family, friends, and especially children. During the ceremony, the Heart Sutra and Jizo Dharani are chanted, incense is offered, the baby Buddha is bathed with sweet tea and presented with flower offerings.

All are invited. Please feel free to bring family, friends, children and grandchildren.

Following the ceremony, we will have a potluck meal of soup, salad, bread and dessert.

*Deborah West will be decorating a bower with greens of varied shades and flowers. If you have greenery or flowers to share, contact Deborah at (805)459-3795
