Mick Malotte - Experiments in Calm Abiding
Experiments in Calm Abiding - Mick Malotte
Important instructions: Please bring a meditation cushion (if you have one) even if you sit in a chair. And wear loose comfortable clothing.
Developing calm abiding (samatha) is one of the most important elements on a meditative path. It not only brings healing and peace, but also empowers insight (vipassana) practice.
But how exactly do we come to experience calm abiding? The truth is that the answer may be different for each of us. So personal experimentation can be helpful.
This evening during our sitting, we will bring in various elements from the seven factors of awakening and the sutta on mindfulness of breathing to see how they function for us.
Be prepared to move around a little and have some fun.
