A Weekend Retreat with Vance Pryor
A Relaxed and Persistent Awareness
A Weekend Retreat with Vance Pryor
Sayadaw U Tejaniya, monastic and meditation instructor, emphasized the importance of both retreat practice and bringing meditation into our daily lives in order to foster well-being and greater freedom from distress.
An essential ingredient in developing wisdom through meditation is to learn to bring a gentle and sustained awareness to each dimension of our lived experience. This practice allows us to notice and understand the habits of emotion and thought which lead to inner contentiousness and distress. With this greater awareness and understanding, inner contentiousness and distress decrease and we become able to relate more skillfully when engaging others in the world.
This non-residential weekend will emphasize development of this gentle and sustained awareness in your practice, provide ways to think about your practice, notice your attitude of mind when meditating, and provide instruction on how to foster continuity of awareness with a degree of effort that can feel sustainable day to day.
Vance Pryor, PsyD, began insight meditation in 1998. He has been deeply influenced by the teachings of Sayadaw U Tejaniya and Sayadaw U Pandita. His training to become a teacher has been supported by the mentorship of Steve Armstrong and Kamala Masters. He is a recent graduate of the Insight Meditation Society's 2017-2021 Teacher Training Program.
