About this event

Update: In-person attendance is now open to all individuals who are free from cold/flu/COVID symptoms, regardless of COVID vaccination status. Attendance on zoom will continue to be an option for the Sunday Program.

In his book, Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Awakening, Joseph Goldstein reminds us that mindfulness is both present moment awareness and recollecting or remembering the virtues of following a path that enlarges the context of our own particular struggles. We can learn to train the mind and discern which actions are wholesome and which are not. In fact, Thich Nhat Hanh calls this practice of ethical development, Mind Trainings. In this talk, we’ll look more deeply into the practice of ethical conduct, the morality component of mindfulness, called sila in the Pali language. These are guidelines, or precepts, that the Buddha prescribed for lay people, and we recite a version of these precepts during our monthly Refuge Ceremony.
