About this event
You are invited to participate in a Haiku workshop with Ali
Haiku is a form of poetry immersed in the Buddhist tradition—a way of life, a way of seeing and above all, a way of reconnecting to nature. As we step into the Spring season, let's immerse ourselves for an extended time to contemplate the impermanence in nature with the Dharma contemplation about how we are accepting change in our lives.
The haiku moment is characterized as an experience of the poem itself — its sound, its structure, its images, its characters, and its overall felt significance.
This will be hybrid, in person and on Zoom.
This workshop is free, no registration is required. Dana will be accepted.
We will meet from 4:00 to 5:30 with a loose schedule of:
15 Min. Meditation.
15 Min. Haiku reading guidelines.
20 Min. of Haiku. We will walk in silence with a journal to notice any changes in nature with an emphasis on beginnings/endings.
40 Min. of reading Haiku from participants, discussion and reflections on meanings.
Closing meditation.
Please bring a notebook and pen.
At 5:30 we'll be setting up for the Sunday program with an invitation for participants to notice the change in transition or walk outside for further impermanence reflections. If folks want a longer meditation practice, we encourage walking meditation and possibly more Haiku reflection OR bring a snack or dinner and have a mindful meal together before the Sunday program about impermanence.
Ali has had an interest in contemplation since childhood which has led him to study various philosophical and human behavior disciplines and pursue various contemplative paths. He has been practicing Meditation since Mid 90's and completed the first facilitator training program of Insight LA.
He led a sitting group every other week in the South Bay area for Insight LA before his relocation to the beautiful Central Coast which he proudly calls home now.
