How do we practice with this? Dr. Ward has some suggestions...
Pay attention to what you pay attention to around race. Notice where you get caught. Where you want to run away. Where you want to rush in. Just notice these things. And then as you notice these things and have settled down a little bit, look into why. Where did this come from? How did this come to be in my mind? How did this come to be in my body?
Learning how to be together with a sense of depth, embodiment and without shame is required for our healing. While we must do our inner meditative work, our practice work, our resilience work, the only reason to do the work is to create space for Big Love. It’s a vocation. It’s a way of living as a human being that honors your precious life. Honors the precious life all around us.
Practice like this: Whatever mess we have, I take responsibility for it. Let us take responsibility for our pain and suffering. Let us take responsibility for our brilliance, our promise, our imagination. And live our lives like they’re real. Full of the precious vitality we’ve been given for a short time.
Pray for one another in the old ways, in the chants, in the dances, in our walking, in our conscious breathing. And so I pray for you. You pray for me. We pray together. And as we do, what’s emerging will continue to take shape and form. Fix your eyes on that emergence. Fix your heart on that emergence. Fix your thought on that emergence. Do not fixate on the collapse of what was because it will give you no energy.
Take your seat at the table of healing and transformation. Take your special seat. Take it! Stand in it! Hold it dear and ride the winds of change unafraid. Do not be intimidated by uncertainty. From our practice we know this is no big deal, just the nature of life.
Take good care of yourself. Watch out for the judgmental mind. Be on guard against the low ceilings that have been set for us by colonial thought. Stand up in your sovereignty. Stand up as an evolutionary human being. And create the planet we want. Create the world we want. Create the relationships with one another we want and not wait for somebody to do it for us.
As we meet, we would like to keep in mind the practice of Mindful Sharing.
