From Calm Abiding to Awareness of Awareness

A Weekend Retreat with John Travis

In this weekend, we will attempt to tame and stabilize the mind and increase our levels of awareness through various practices. We begin with collecting the attention to support calm abiding, the ground for all meditation practices. The second aspect is to recognize and study our fixations. Out of understanding, we loosen our grip, sometimes described as choiceless awareness. Ultimately we break down the false separateness between inner and outer, recognizing awareness itself.

John M. Travis has been teaching meditation since 1986. He studied in Asia with senior teachers of both Vipassana and Tibetan traditions and completed a four-year teacher training with Jack Kornfield. He is the founding teacher of Mountain Stream Meditation Center in Nevada City, and a teacher for Spirit Rock Center, a Buddhist retreat center in Marin County. John has a private practice as a meditation counselor, and is trained in Hakomi body-centered therapy.

Take two days out of your busy life to spend in sitting and walking meditation, hear transformative teachings, and participate in lively discussion.

Continuing education credit (10 CE hours) is available for this retreat at no additional cost for the following California professionals: Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Nurses, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatric Technicians and Certified Nursing Assistants. The CE Sponsors are: FlexTherapistCEUs, Quantum Units Education, and Mindful Continuing Education. If interested in receiving CEs for this retreat, please see CEPolicy for more information.
