Sitting, Tea, and a Dharma Talk

“When you attend a retreat, are you there seeking something or are you there to celebrate with a Bunch of Buddhas?”

Please join us at the White Heron Sangha Meditation Center in Avila Village from 1-4PM for a Zen mini-retreat with Myokaku Jane Schneider-roshi, who has been studying Buddhism for many decades and is the Abbess of the Beginner's Mind Zen Center. She started her studies with Shunryu Suzuki-roshi in 1967 at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, and took her Bodhisattva vows in 1969. Jane was ordained by Richard Baker in 1972 at San Francisco Zen Center. From 1973 to 1995 Jane and her husband, Peter Schneider-roshi, lived in Japan. There she studied Rinzai and Soto Zen as well as Shingon and Tendai Buddhism.

Jane returned to Los Angeles and founded Beginner's Mind Zen Center (Sho Sin In) in Northridge, Ca with her husband. In 2009 she received Dharma transmission and in 2017 she was installed as Abbess of Beginner's Mind Zen Center.

Jane is an accomplished artist and has been representing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in her paintings for the last 50 years. She will be showing her art during the month of April at Art Central, 1329 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. There will be an opening reception on Friday, April 6, from 6-8PM.  Proceeds from the show to benefit the Zanskar School for Girls in India.
